Is moms knife really that bad to take? Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:25 AM PST So I've heard a lot about the notorious moms knife, how it's good or bad or whatever. But the main thing I've heard is "If you take it your run will be boring". Thing is, I've only just unlocked it and I don't see that? It could be me being an idiot and getting hit in stupid spots when using it, but I don't see it as this all powerful item? Literally the only thing I've seen is it OHKO a dark grey gurdy. I'd like to hear what people here think about it. [link] [comments]

Devil Deals Costing Soul Hearts, Your Opinions Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:23 AM PST TLDR: 1-heart devil deals MAY (not confirmed) randomly cost 3 soul hearts. This means you may not be able to take a 3 soul heart deal, even if you have 4 red hearts and 1 soul heart to get rid of. Before you discuss your opinions on this in the commets, I would advise reading my post first. I want to lead off with me saying I don't know if this "feature" will be in Repentance, but I hope it won't be. Devil deals are an important part to any run. This is where you get run-winning items like Mom's Knife or Brimstone, or run-building items like Whore of Babylon, Death's List, or Guppy's Tail. Devil deals have different costs depending on the item. The super strong ones like Brimstone and Mom's Knife cost 2 red heart containers. Makes sense, as these items can singlehandedly decide if you win your run or not. You can't have all these incredible items with no fodder, however, so one-heart items like Brother Bobby, Gimpy, or Razor Blade were added. There is another way to pay for these devil deals, the shield-currency known as Soul Hearts. As you know, they are temporary health that can shield your devil deal chance from lowering for a few hits. As Blue Baby clearly demonstrates, a character can live entirely off of soul hearts. If you have no red hearts and only soul hearts, the devil deal cost is automatically converted to 3 soul hearts. This means if you want to take more deals, you need to spend 3 of a potential 12 of your hearts for each item. Not a problem, as soul hearts are reletively easy to come by. In Antibirth, I believe that if you were to take one of these deals if you had a red heart and a soul heart, the deal would take ALL of your hearts and you would die. Unless the item ends up giving you soul hearts, like The Pact or The Mark. Very strange it would take all or your health though, because according to the game, a red heart is valued the same as 2-3 soul hearts. Just use Guppy's Paw and Convertor to see what I mean. Here's where the problem comes in. I've been playing a lot of Flash Isaac recently, and I was two third's Guppy. I had Dead Cat and Guppy's Paw, but I had gotten rid of it for Book of Belial. On Womb 1, I ended up taking too much damage, so I went from 4 red hearts and 4 soul hearts to 4 red hearts and 1 soul heart. No problem, I can still take a devil deal and really blow this run out of the water! Until I get my deal. Guppy's Tail! My third piece! Only it costs 3 soul hearts. Why? I have absolutely no way to buy it. I wasn't even allowed to touch it. Even with 4 red heart containers. I had the health to take it. Even if it had, for some reason, taken all of my health due to lack of the "proper currency," I still couldn't take Guppy's Tail and become Guppy. Because the game said no. I was forced out of making my run even stronger by taking a calculated risk and coming out the other side, because the game randomly decided to make a 1 heart devil deal 3 soul hearts. Here's where the real dread comes in. We have already seen in Repentance that devil deal costs change to cost more. If you have 2 red hearts and 3 soul hearts and you have a deal with... Let's say Brimstone and Brother Bobby, and you take Bobby first, the cost of Brimstone will change to 1 red heart and 2 soul hearts. A very harsh change, but personally I think it's fine, because taking a 2-heart deal for one heart seemed a bit too strong. However, I have also heard (not seen, heard) that some items would randomly cost 3 soul hearts, even if you have at least one red heart. If this DLC references Flash Isaac as much as I think it does, that means you won't be able to take up that item at all. Think of all the items you could be gatekept from: Sac Dagger, Guppy's Head, Duality, THE MARK, which GIVES Isaac a soul heart anyway. It's worth mentioning that this only seems to happen with 1-heart deals. I do NOT want to see this happen in Repentance. I believe that if you think you are skilled enough to survive on low health, even just one single soul heart, you should take as many devil deals as you want. Even if it KILLED YOU, you should still be able to take it, because if you're letting a devil deal kill you, you probably have a plan. You shouldn't be stopped from taking that final piece of your transformation, or the last thing your build needs to really win the run... Just because the game said no. [link] [comments]
