Boss Discussion

Oh gosh—it's Friday! I have returned to Portland for the remainder of the summer, and I'm feeling dazed by more than just (a single hour of) jetlag. The well of floors to discuss has been exhausted, and now...what do I have left to post that is Not Items? Saturday and Sunday had been Bosses and Characters, but like, guess we're doing a Friday boss post? Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria.

Anyhow, merry Friday, dorks and dweebs. Mines and Corpse have seen a lot of love, and it's high time Mausoleum got in on some of that action. Come at me with all your hot takes—after all, we're talking about The Heretic! The final member in The Haunt family, this spooky specter packs a definite punch. Let's get into it 🕶

[The Heretic]

HP: 789

Behaviors

• The Heretic spawns invulnerable alongside 5 Exorcists in a pentagram which turn into Fanatics; killing these allows The Heretic to be damaged

• The Heretic has a variety of attacks related to spectral flames and fireplaces, listed as follows:

• Lobs 7 projectiles with a marked target, which burst on landing into 6 fires which spread out in a radial pattern, followed by The Heretic launching itself towards Isaac and landing in a radial burst of 8 lines of flame

• Dashes off-screen and turns invisible before charging in again, predicting Isaac's movements and attempting to bite down on where Isaac is moving, doing a full heart of damage. This attack repeats 4 times, though occasionally the fourth does not finish, and the Heretic instead fades away and quickly charges in from the other side of the screen

. It chains this attack a total of 4 times, each time from alternating sides of the room.

• The Heretic's Boss Arena will always contain a number of unlit Fire Places, which The Heretic can light up and fire a Brimstone laser between (the order of illumination indicates the path of the laser). The Heretic cannot use this attack in Boss Trap Rooms

• On death, The Heretic's fiery eye drops down and sends out lines of fire in the cardinal directions
