Probably the closest would be Gungeon. But nothing really comes close when considering overall richness of gameplay, weapons, enemies, and so on. I've played many games in this genre and BoI is in a class all its own.

At over 2100 hours played, it completely destroys my next most played games (mid-500). There are 2 of those and the rest of my games are mere hours played.

Besides it being the best in the field (for me), it remains on top for being playable on potato-level hardware and pressing f to go fullscreen/windowed is brilliant and something I just don't see at all in other games.

My only criticisms is that I think Delirium and Hush were bad additions and largely unfair. Hush is debatable, but Delirium remains on the unfair side and should have been largely reworked. [I haven't played in years so it may have been reworked.]

Anyway, I'm picking it up again despite having completely finished the game and playing with my favorite guy, Samson to rack up Eden tokens and build up a good win streak (always hard, always pick up everything).

Despite unlocking and completing everything, it's as much of a joy as when I first started with the original game pre-Wrath of Lamb. I can't say the same thing for nearly every other game out there (once I finish and/or quit it, picking it back up is painful and I can't commit for more than a few minutes.)

I love this game and I know that, for me, nothing will ever touch this game in terms of how much it appeals to me and has held me captivated.

Thanks Edmund for the thousands of hours of joy and agonizing frustration.

Forever a fan and I will buy the final expansion on day 1.
