On this day in 2011, the original version of The Binding of Isaac released on steam, making Isaac 9 years old! To celebrate this occasion, this thread will be dedicated to everything related to Isaac's anniversary!

Want to share some birthday fan art? Drop it in the comments! Are you a veteran and want to share your favorite memories of synergies slowing the game to a crawl or how busted it was to have no soul heart cap? Feel free! Anything related to Vanilla Isaac and the anniversary goes!

For all you young'uns that never played Vanilla, here's the steam blurb to give you perspective on where the game was:

When Isaac's mother starts hearing the voice of God demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith, Isaac escapes into the basement facing droves of deranged enemies, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually his mother.

The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements. Following Isaac on his journey players will find bizarre treasures that change Isaac's form giving him super human abilities and enabling him to fight off droves of mysterious creatures, discover secrets and fight his way to safety.

    Key features:

    • Randomly generated dungeons, items enemies and bosses, you never play the same game twice.

    • Over 100 unique items that not only give you powers but visually change your character.

    • 50+ enemy types each with the ability to become "special" making them extra deadly but they also drop better loot.

    • Over 20 bosses.

    • 4 full chapters spanning 8 levels

    • 3+ unlockable classes

    • Multiple endings

    • Tons of unlockable items, enemies, bosses and more.

Vanilla only started with 5 characters, a run ended at Mom's heart and no alt floors existed. In May 2012, the game was expanded with Wrath of the Lamb, which added many now-standard features such as curses, alt floors, new types of rooms (angel, curse, super secret), and possibly some of the most annoying enemies in the entire series (spiders+spider variants, mullibooms, keepers).

TBoI has come a long way since then, but it's nice to remember the roots of the game to see where it all started. If you have anything you'd like to share in celebration or just want to reminisce, feel free to leave a comment!

Might be quite lackluster for some but I finally got all completion marks on normal mode for Isaac and I'm pretty proud of myself!

It’s the ninth anniversary of my favourite game about a naked toddler, so in honour I drew all of the Harbingers, and some decapitated guy on a horse

Do you guys see that attack spider... with the mom’s knife?

I somehow unlocked the Five Nights at Mom’s achievement without getting a 5 win streak?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Hey, so I DID win 5 times, each time with a different character, but in between those runs I had also died and started multiple different unsuccessful runs. Despite this, only with a 1 win on the streak counter when I finished my run, I had gotten the achievement.

Just wanted to clear this up, was this a glitch or is it possible to get this achievement without winning 5 times in a row?

    Thank you in advance.
