A Criticism of Sinvicta, one of the greatest Isaac players. Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:00 PM PDT I have already posted this in r/Sinvicta, but because I believe he needs more pushback than he's getting, and from an unbiased perspective, I am also posting this here. The rest of this post will be exactly the same as what it was when I posted it on there. A criticism of Sinvicta Before you downvote this, I just want to say that this is with full respect to Sinvicta, Edmund Mcmillen, and everybody in the moshpit. I too enjoy, and have enjoyed Sinvicta's content for over half a year and do not mean for this to be a personal attack, but due to the extreme scrutiny he's given to Repentance, I must return said scrutiny to him. First is the pills debacle. Although this has been discussed ever since he chose to stop taking them, this is something that gives us insight into Sinvicta's character. In his first Repentance run, he got more than 6 good pills in a row and was totally on board with them until 2 of them popped up in a row and immediately decided that he wasn't taking them again. Yeah? Really? You really expect every pill you take to be good and stop just because a few are bad? That's how pills work! It's a risk that can pay off, and, as Hutts said in his first Repentance run, "You only have to take a bad pill once. But when you get a good pill, you can keep taking that pill for the entire run." Him completely writing them off for fulfilling their promise of being a somewhat risky, but ultimately not run ending and usually run strengthening is absolutely unnecessary. Second is his complaint in his Repentance run today. He was happy about how Edmund reverted the shops to be full again and that they'd have reroll pedestals like they used to, and then said that he also hoped that Ed would also fix the shot speed and that's what put me off. He is complaining about Hard Mode living up to its namesake. I wasn't too happy about the shops being ruined, but them being completely fixed instead of occasionally having slightly less available items was a horrible choice. Now Sinvicta was also asking him to undo the only other thing making it a Hard Mode, which is Shot Speed. Although difficult, it was definitely fair, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other things this game has featured before. I made a comment on said video saying, quote, "Hearing the man with a 1000 Eden Streak whine about the game being slightly more difficult is like a spoiled rich kid complaining about their allowance being lessened." Although I will admit that this is very harsh, I firmly believe that it holds true, and even more, I'd like to build on it because the game has been made way easier in so many other aspects that it only makes sense to have a mode where the game remains a challenge. My third major criticism is that Sinvicta has said, to quote it, "We really can't have one good item?" This is in response to Humbling Bundle's nerf, and I think it completely misses the point of Repentance. Almost everything in the game has either been nerfed if it was too powerful or buffed if it was too weak. For example is Brimstone and Maw of the Void, two items Sinvicta used to consider Hard Carry Items. To me, this really sounds like he's just complaining that there's no one items that make a run go from bad to good, which, in it of itself, is whiny. No one item should be able to flip the run on its head so him complaining that a reasonable decision is bad is just... I don't even have to words to explain this. Lastly is what ties this whole thing together as my main reason for making this post because Edmund is listening. It's confirmed that he watches Sinvicta's and Hutts' content, so he listens to what they have to say more than the average player. Because of this, Sinvicta making unreasonable claims and whining about things being harder and Edmund having no pushback against these claims is so freaking annoying that I can't stand it. From all of this, Sinvicta has given me the impression that all he cares about is his streak, which although very well founded, impacts the community and game as a whole. It's completely selfish for him to prevent players who actually want a fair challenge from getting it just so he can keep his, and only his, streak going. Tl;dr with all due respect for one of, if not, the best Isaac players out there, there is no non-selfish reason for Sinvicta to complain about fair and wellfounded mechanics that create a higher skill ceiling for his own benefit. Although some of his complaints are within reason, writing off things for no good reason other than his own self intrest and impacting the game and it's community with little to no pushback is corrupt, unjust, and selfish. Sincerely, a dedicated fan of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+/Repentance and Sinvicta. Edit: After recently learning that Sinvicta's 1000+ Eden Streak is almost certainly fake, I would like to formally undo my noted respect for him. It is also likely that he is using his high subsciber count to try and affect the game's development and patches to get what he wants. [link] [comments] | ||
