    I think the whole purpose of the new mechanics (aside from balancing choices) is to show a more clever Satan that does not allow you to cheat, and it all makes sense like this.

    As soon as he sees that The Lost can't pay for his deals and basically steals it for free, he just makes the other one disappear.

    He knows that The Keeper has no health, so he asks for his precious coins (that basically mean life for him).

    He tries to bait you with soul hearts and dynamic prices to make you not refrain from offering your life when you don't have enough left.

    And thus, it totally makes sense that you can't cheat him like before. Why would you even spend half red heart to take a two hearts deal from a demon that can literally see your residual life? (jokes apart, why would you be allowed to?)
