    Boss Discussion

Hullo Dorks & Dweebs, and welcome to the ~ fourth ~ series of Daily Discussion posts—Boss Discussions! I almost kicked things off with a Beast/Dogma post (side note: should those be separate posts or a single one? Leaning towards separate...), but as tough as that fight can be, I figured starting with the most divisive jerk around is always fun. So, I decided we'd kick things off with the little bastard that takes me down to 1/2 a heart no matter how well my run is going: Singe!

Exploding onto the scene like an alternate reality version of Nuclear Throne's Lil Hunter, this spike hurling twerp is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Creative, sure, in the same way that you can appreciate the engineering prowess that goes into a medieval torture implement. The spikes on the iron maiden and Singe's balls both look neat, but I don't really love 'em when they're stabbing me in the darn face. But, well, per ushe I'm getting ahead of myself. These posts are for the vox populi baby, so let's uh...vox it up, I dunno I took Spanish not Latin. Singe—what do y'all think?

    [Singe]

    HP: 444

    Behaviors

    • Singe's boss room contains 4 moveable spikeballs which will fly around the room if caught in an explosion

    • Farts a cloud of explosive gas, propelling spikeballs slowly

    • Runs towards Isaac or a spiked rock and creates an explosion, jumping if close to gain extra distance

    • Charges up and releases a large explosion, disappearing offscreen and leaving a cross-shaped pit, before landing alongside an additional spike rock (only occurs 2x per fight)

    • Shoots wide stream of fire in Isaac's direction which loosely adjusts to movements (after 2nd charge-up explosion attack)

    • Explodes on death

    Boss

    Floors: Ashpit

Opinion: Tainted Isaac might be this DLC's perfect char.

    Posted: 10 May 2021 06:16 AM PDT

I want to say T. Isaac is not the best char in the roster. There are much more fun chars to play. But as a char that shows how much binding of Isaac has changed for the better since the mixed Afterbirth+ dlc. Love it or hate it, one major issue with AB+ was the balancing of items. Too many items were just hot garbage while others were instant win buttons. The game was tilted to almost never having red health and focusing on soul hearts/devil deals. You almost never went anywhere except the chest unless you were bored.

But repentance's greatest achievement was balance. While it sucks that so many items were nerfed, none are outright bad now. They are just not instant wins. On the flip side, garbage items that were always hard passes now are buffed. Devil deals are not always the way to go because soul hearts are slightly harder to get now. You can't just infinitely farm them. And the angel pool has been reworked to stop having garbage rooms (like a single soul heart or nothing but fires.)

This brings me to T. Isaac. His mechanic of only carrying 8 items but having more choices for items makes for a perfect char. You learn quickly that damage isn't everything anymore because its much harder to get a 5 fire rate, 10+ damage run with just 8 items. Instead you have to get creative and find the synergies. Repentance has created so many synergies with items that those are the true way to break the game. You learn that you don't need every single item in order to win the game. and once you have 8, you are allowed to play with the items, dropping one that don't help your build for better ones.

Personally I think T. Isaac is one of the best examples of how much work was put into repentance and how far this game has come from flash isaac. Obviously there is still room for improvement (no game is perfect) but for what it is worth, I think this DLC was well worth every penny. (except Delirium. Fuck that guy).
