    What are your playstyle philosophies?

    i.e. what general strategies do you tend to follow in your play, and why? Here's my own:

    1: Always have the base stats necessary to clear the most common challenges. In particular, you should never sink your speed below .8 so you can always outrun chasing enemies and your range below 3 tiles' worth so you can safely attack bosses.

    2: Avoid taking anything that takes away your ability to consistently predict and dodge enemies, namely ones that inflict high knockback or movement inhibiting effects. Most enemies are designed in a way that allows you to avoid taking damage almost every time once you learn their attack patterns; throwing in stuns, knockback, or fear takes away the enemies' consistent, predictable actions and forces you to react on the fly to whatever magic they'll now pull.

    3: Likewise, don't take anything outside of boss rooms and devil/angel rooms on Curse of the Blind, as that exposes you to all the items you would otherwise want nothing to deal with.

    4: Trinkets, cards, and active items should be prioritized based on their ability to tackle challenges you would otherwise be unable to. Given how enemies that chase you down and/or have randomized movement or attack patterns are the most likely to hit you (think bats, leeches, spiders, masks, cysts, etc.), room clearing items/cards and good close-range damage sources are the best for these slots.

    5: Up until fighting Mom, take the time to build up your run until you can win the rest of the game with what you have. Given Isaac's design, there's no guarantee that you'll get what you need to safely take on every challenge. Having a good health buffer to take hits and a large stock of bombs to take on troublesome rooms is invaluable for clearing runs that would otherwise be trainwrecks.

    Question about "It's the key" (beat the lamb without taking hearts, coins and bombs)

    Pretty simple question - does receiving any of those items through mechanisms OTHER than picking them up spoil the run?

    IE, if I take butt bombs, I get 5 bombs, but is that "taking them"?

    likewise with Balls of Steel which grants 2 silver hearts without picking them up.
