Unpopular opinion: Half of the Floor Curses are bad game design

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 09:05 AM PST

I might get down voted for this, but I rarely see serious discussion on this sub and thought I'd give it a shot. I feel most of the floor curses add inherent frustration rather than the kind of video game difficulty that rewards you for playing well. Want to break down why I hate some of these-

    • Curse of Darkness- This just makes the screen darker for the entire floor. I feel like this punishes you for something out of your control, and playing on a device where you can't adjust the brightness (nintendo switch) is very frustrating. Doesn't help that the majority of enemies are little black spiders and flies that cover a room. Have you ever lost a run due to not being able to see anything? It sucks.

    • Curse of the Maze - Occasionally teleports you to different rooms when going through a door. Have you ever been on your way to the boss room and randomly show up across the map? This can ruin speed runs, and I've died from quickly running between doors and randomly getting teleported into a room with spikes. Again, not real game difficulty, just purposefully annoying.

    • Curse of the Blind- Replaces pedestal items with a ? symbol. I actually like this one because it adds more randomness to the game, however the moments when you're deep into a run and you accidentally pick up something like Curse of the Tower sucks ass. More of a honorable mention because those moments are rare but still so aggravating. It also kind of takes away the accomplishment of surviving to see a devil deal...

    • Curse of the Lost- Removes your map (Amnesia effect). I actually have no problem with this one the first few floors, but once you're in the womb and beyond and you're having to comb through doors you've already gone through to find the boss door in these giant-ass maps it's horrible. (Everything looks the fucking same in Utero!)

Anyone else share this opinion? I just wish there was a way to turn them off. 10/10 game otherwise

I need help reaching that "next level" of playing Binding of Isaac

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 04:22 AM PST

I've been playing Afterbirth+ on and off for a couple of years now and I need some tips on how to take my game to the next level.

I've beaten Mom/Mom's Heart 13 times now, I've also beaten Isaac and Satan. But based on what I see people saying on this sub it feels like I'm missing something.

I don't put too much thought into my runs, I just play the cards I'm dealt and hope for the best. But I see people saying you should try to get certain items, which I believe can be achieved (or at least greatly helped) with a little RNG manipulation.

Are there any good guides or YouTubers that go into detail on this? I did have a google but the guides I found were more heavily based on the stats, rather than how to use them to your advantage.

Handy mods for learning the items?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2020 07:03 AM PST

Hello, Im relatively new to The Binding of Isaac and I just got Rebirth. Are there any tools/mods that help with learning the effects of the items (for example I get to know what the item does before picking it up) or that shows good synergies. Maybe that would speed up the process of learning the game. Any recommendation is appreciated, have a nice day! :)
