Subreddit Suggestion Thread & A Warm Welcome to Our New Mods!

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:57 PM PDT

Apologies for the slightly delayed post—no later than September 20th really didn't hold up, hah. But, hey, what's a few more days of quarantine?

To all our moderator applicants, thank you so much for applying! We had far more applicants than we originally anticipated, so we ultimately decided to narrow it down to 4 new moderators. Without further ado, please say hello do your four wonderful new mods:

    /u/IRoastyMyToastyI, /u/Blahpman11, /u/AVNTR, & /u/Crossstoney

Can't wait to work with all of you to bring /r/thebindingofisaac into The Future™.

And speaking of The Future, the one recurring theme amongst the applications was suggestions on how to improve the Subreddit (go figure, that was literally one of the questions). But, what was surprising was not people's lovely suggestions (though thank you for all of those), but instead the fact that even users not excited about being moderators filled it out to drop their input. Which reminded me—we almost never poll for your suggestions!

    • A new approach to achievement and synergy posts
    • Increased daily discussions and moderator presence in that regard
    • Weekly rant/progress threads
    • "Mod of the Month" (or other mod-related discussions) to vote on top mods
    • Restart Item Workshop — or a new set of discussions
    • Community events
    • Better FAQs
    • An item bot for the Subreddit (e.g. !Brimstone)
    • New flairs (Eluc is working on it, it's a Reddit issue not an us issue [EDIT: LMAO TURNS OUT I JUST TURNED FLAIRS OFF ON ACCIDENT LAST YEAR])

Our new moderators expressed interest in taking on some of these goals, so I'm sure we'll see a lot of new activity around here in the coming weeks, especially as Repentance creeps closer. But, is there anything else that all y'all'd like to see tackled?

Anyways, welcome to our new mods, and we look forward to all your responses!

Most Curses Aren't Fun or Interesting, They Should Be Revamped

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:31 AM PDT

I get that they are supposed to add challenge, but most of them are just annoying and not fun. Curse of the unknown, labyrinth and blind are alright, but curse of the lost, maze and darkness are just unpleasant. Depending on platform curse of darkness either does basically nothing or makes the game really hard to see, especially on switch. They are enough reason for me to avoid hard mode when I'm not going for unlocks. Some more interesting curses could be fun and still add challenge, like having enemies occasionally turn invisible for a floor, or more champions but more drops too. When if every enemy exploded on death for a floor? There are ways to make the concept fun instead of annoying is what I'm trying to get across.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:32 AM PDT

Seriously. I have over 350 hours in the game and I still haven't gotten more than 2 ball of bandages. It's the last item I need for platinum god.
